Indoor Track & Field: Jones and Bentley Break School Records at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Westminster College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed in the Crimson & Golf Invitational, hosted by Oberlin College, on Friday. The Titan men's team finished second out of four schools with 155 points, while the Titan women's team placed fourth out of five schools with 68 points.

Senior Jenny Jones (Erie, PA / Fort LeBoeuf) placed second in the 3,000-meter run as she broke her own school record by more than seven seconds with a time of 11:01.08. She previously ran an 11:09.00 in 2012 at Youngstown State University.

Freshman Jametrius Bentley (Lake Worth, FL / Park Vista Community) earned the Titans 16 points after two second-place finishes on the track. Bentley placed second in the 60-meter dash by breaking his own school record with a time of 7.10. He ran a 7.26 at Youngstown State last month. Bentley also placed second in the 200-meter dash (23.52).

Also for the men's team, freshman Dominic Schrecengost (Avonmore, PA / Apollo-Ridge) racked up 16 points in the field for Westminster. His leaps of 5.88 meters in the long jump and 11.68 meters in the triple jump were both good enough for second place.

Also earning second place for the men's team was the 4x200-meter relay team who finished at 1:42.19. The quartet included junior Justin Shaw (Monaca, PA / Central Valley), junior Justin Smith (Lawrenceville, GA / South Gwinnett), sophomore Doltyn Snedden (Windber, PA / Forest Hills), and junior Taran Sifontes-Lavine (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley).

Sophomore Cameron Worthing (Bellwood, PA / Bellwood-Antis) took third in the long jump (5.64 meters) and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (11.26).

Junior Nick Fiorentino (Franklin, PA / Franklin) placed second in the shot put with a toss of a personal-record 14.32 meters and placed third in the weight throw (13.18 meters).

Sophomore Neil Christopher (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) (1-mile run/5:05.87), junior Michael Mikita (Rural Valley, PA / West Shamokin) (200-meter dash/24.90), sophomore Billy Trott (Transfer, PA / Reynolds) (triple jump/11.43 meters), and sophomore Matt Slagle (Bruin, PA / Karns City) (3,000-meter run/9:51.10) all placed fourth in their respective events.

For the women's team, the 4x400-meter relay team won with a time of 4:18.91. Completing the quartet were junior Marissa Toensing (Newton Falls, OH / Newton Falls), junior Caitlin Yakopin (Washington, PA / Washington), sophomore Hayley Thewes (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside), and sophomore Alicia Nuzzo (New Castle, PA / Neshannock).

Toensing also touched second in the 60-meter hurdles (10.28), while Yakopin finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (8.55).

Senior Alaura Hanssen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 12.61 meters. She also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 11.07 meters.

First-year Katelynn Morrell (Boardman, OH / Boardman) placed fifth in the 1-mile run (5:38.63) and in the 800-meter run (2:39.73).

A select number of Titans will compete tomorrow at the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by the University of Mount Union.
