Indoor Track & Field: Titans Place Third at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio - The Westminster College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Mid-February Meet, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University on Friday. Both teams placed third out of 15 teams. The Titan men's team registered 73 points, while the Titan women's team earned 68.85 points.

The Titan men's team had three first-place finishes. Junior Andrew Brannen (Pittsburgh, PA / Peters Township) won the pole vault with a mark of 14 feet, 5 inches (4.40 meters), his personal-best for indoor. Senior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) placed first in the long jump with leap of 22 feet, 3 inches (6.79 meters).

Rounding out the first-place finishers for Westminster was junior Nick Fiorentino (New Wilmington, PA / Franklin) who won the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 7 inches (14.21 meters). Fiorentino also placed third in the weight throw with mark of 44 feet, inches (13.43 meters).

Freshman Jametrius Bentley (Lake Worth, FL / Park Vista Community) notched a pair of second-place finishes. Bentley placed second in the 55-meter dash (6.58) and set a new personal record with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (23.49).

For the women's team, the Titans took the top-3 spots in the pole vault. Junior Marissa Kalsey (Waynesburg, PA / Waynesburg) won after posting a track-record of 12 feet, 5 inches (3.79 meters). Senior Brittany Majors (Wampum, PA / Ellwood City) placed second (10'11.50'/3.34m) and first-year Hailey Hall (Grove City, PA / Grove City Area) placed third (10'5.50'/3.19m).

Sophomore Cassidy Shepherd (Greensburg, PA / Salem) placed third in the long jump (15'9'/4.80m) and fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.76).

Senior Jenny Jones (Erie, PA / Fort LeBoeuf) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a school-record time of 19:10.60, while junior Caitlin Yakopin (Washington, PA / Trinity) placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.72). Yakopin was also the first leg of the 800-meter run that placed third with at time of 4:24.13. Completing the quartet were sophomore Hayley Thewes (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside), freshman Kennedy McLendon (Knox, PA / Keystone), and junior Marissa Toensing (Newton Falls, OH / Newton Falls).

Westminster will compete at Kenyon College next Saturday.
